It has been two years since pro-democracy activists; Phyo Zeyar Thaw, Kyaw Min Yu (Ko Jimmy), Hla Myo Aung, and Aung Thura Zaw, were executed by the Myanmar military junta in 2022. Their deaths were reportedly the first judicial executions to take place in the country in decades. These democracy activists were tried in secretive military tribunals and given a sham trial.

Since the February 2021 coup, there have been over 6,000 people killed, multiple attacks against ethnic groups throughout the country, and numerous human rights violations which continue to be documented by many community-based organisations in and out of the country.

ARNO honors all those who have lost their lives and their loved ones fighting for democracy in Burma. The Rohingya people know all too well the horrors of living under the military junta and hope that the international community can move beyond words and assist the people of Burma in their fight to secure their future against the military junta.
